After nearly a year and a half of grieving the loss of her husband, twenty-seven year old Alexa Sullivan Tate is headed back to her hometown after a decade of being away. She has no idea her high school crush, Jace McAllister, the guy who stole her heart the same night that he broke it, is more than ready to pick up the pieces.
Jace has spent the last ten years in the Army defusing bomb after bomb, trying to forget the girl who ignited all his passions. Little does he know that the spark still exists.
Ten years ago they had smoldering chemistry, but the spark between them now might light a fuse that leads to an explosion even Jace can’t stop. Not that he wants to. If only Alexa can get past her guilt and trust her heart again.
But how do you put it all on the line when you’ve already lost everything once before?
I first had the pleasure of reading Ignite when it was just called “WIP 2013″, catchy title huh? Tessa had sent me the prologue for some honest feedback, and I’m not gonna lie I wasn’t expecting much….luckily, because how awkward would that have been if it sucked, I really enjoyed the prologue and found myself DYING to know what was in store for Lexi and Jace. Even when I was swamped with other reviews or had the newest purchase from my TBR loaded on my kindle, I kept going back to Ignite. You might be thinking that my review is biased because I was fortunate enough to be along for the Ignite ride, but I promise you my words are true .
Ignite is not perfect. If you are looking for a high drama, gritty, angst-filled romance then Ignite is probably not that book for you. But if you are like me and enjoy reading a fun, heartfelt, relatable romance in between the “mind fuck” books, Ignite is definitely the book for you! Just because this book isn’t filled with sex slaves or twitchy palmed billionaires does not mean it doesn’t pack some heat! Lets just say that Jace McAllister really did it for me…
Jace is a saint. A sexy, muscular, tattooed saint. He’s kind, patient, sexy and oh so sweet. Every now and then you get glimpses of the bomb-defusing-alpha-male Jace and I LOVED it…because even I don’t want my guys to be THAT sweet Lexi is the kinda female character I think most readers will either immediately connect with… or want to punch in the face. I personally could relate to her. Maybe it’s because of our mutual addiction to Amazon Prime or our (sometimes “unhealthy”) love of red wine (who am I kidding…all wine), but I totally understood all of her emotions and fears. That girl had gone through so much in her young life and as amazing as her second chance at love was, I thought her fears and apprehensions were totally legitimate.
I thought Teevan did a great job incorporating the character of Ty, Lexi’s late husband, into the story. Even though you only knew him through Alexa’s memories and flashbacks he was a very important character and played a pivotal role in Jace and Lexi’s relationship. I loved that even though he was definitely a barrier between them, Ty’s character was never vilified. Jace respected that part of Lexi’s life and was so supportive of her memories. I was totally prepared for 99.9% of the book to be Lexi pushing Jace away because she felt guilty about moving on from her late husband…thankfully that was not that case at all.
As amazing as Jace and Lexi were. I gotta say, the cast of supporting characters in this book blew me away. Lexi’s big sister Sierra, her husband, Jeremy and their little daughter Ava were equal parts adorable and hilarious. Her friend Brady is every girls dream gay BFF and Jace’s military buddy, Knox was just downright yummy. Fortunately for me and all of you soon to be Knox lovers the next book in the series, Incinerate is all about him!!!
This book will have you laughing, possibly crying and definitely swooning. It’s impossible not to relate to and root for these characters. The next time you are looking for a book to restore your faith in humanity and true love, read Ignite because it will most definitely make your heart smile!!
ABOUT TESSA TEEVAN:
I’m a twenty six year old book junkie who is also obsessed with sports. Bengals, Buckeyes, Reds are my teams! I work for the government during the day, hang out with Air National Guard on the weekends, and am married to a guy 15 inches taller than me. We’re quite the pair! We currently live right outside of Dayton, OH with our two cats.
I’ve been reading since I was a kid. My mom was a librarian, so it was a given. Heck, she even made sure we watched Wishbone instead of the Smurfs. In 2011 when I graduated from college, my mom bought me a Nook, and then in the summer of 2012 I found this amazing site called Goodreads. I was introduced to so many amazing indie/self-published authors. After reading almost 400 books that year, my husband gave me the push to finally sit down and write my own. It was a rocky start, but over time the words started flowing and I couldn’t get Jace and Lexi out of my head.
If I’m not writing or looking through tons of photos of hot men, all in the name of research, then you can probably find me curled up with my Kindle, ignoring the rest of the world. I love my sports almost as much as I love my books. My other obsessions include red wine, hot men, country music, and all things Grace Potter.
